Your baggage allowance for this trip is preferably just the one piece of main luggage in the form of a sports bag or backpack and one daypack. The larger piece will travel with the vehicle between accommodations and the daypack should be suitable for carrying and additional clothing or items with you during the day. This does not have to be carried with you if you wish to leave it in the vehicle. You will also be provided with a storage box to keep items that you may need during the days ride/at rest stops to save you having to search around in the back of the van.
(we cannot accommodate hard bike cases for people who are flying in and out of Ireland)
The accommodation provided on the trip is mainly 4 star hotels with 1 or 2 B&Bs on the 7 day trip. They vary due to nature of our locations each night and are based on 2 people sharing a twin room. Single supplements are charged for those not wanting to share – please contact us for details.
BIKES AND EQUIPMENT
We strongly recommend that you ride a road /racing bike for this trip due to the long distances involved on well-surfaced roads, alternatively a mountain bike fitted with narrow slick road tyres should be just fine. Make sure the bike has a suitable range of gears as you will be climbing hills in places and if you are not familiar with the mechanics of your bike it would pay to take it to a cycle shop for a service prior to the trip.
It is recommended that you bring a range of spares including chain sections/whole new chain, at least one spare tyre and 3 new inner tubes. (Beware of cheap tyres they will wear quickly and do not offer much puncture resistance). We do have certain parts for sale but please understand it is not possible to stock for every single bike.
The support vehicle will always be on hand should you need assistance at any time during the trip. In the trailer is a range of spares, full tool kit and even a spare bike. Whether you need a break, have bike trouble or just need emotional support getting up a big hill, we will do what we can to keep you going.
Breakfast is provided by your accommodation and ranges from the usual full Irish through to cereals, yoghurts, fruit, toast and fruit juices, tea and coffee.
Lunches, evening meals and drinks are not included in the price. Most evenings we are close to pubs/towns and can recommend a few that you just have to try.
Although not compulsory, it is recommended that you have personal accident and bike cover for the duration of the cycle. We provide the secure trailer for overnight storage of your bicycles however we must advise that they will be left there at your own risk and a policy of sorts should be in place to cover these including personal items.
We do not use guides on the cycle trips for a couple of simple reasons:
No guide enables us to keep the costs as low as possible and pass that on to you as a customer.
Mainly though we feel that for the majority of you, as riders, this is a massive personal challenge, which with the odd exception will only be completed once ever in your lifetime and to add a guide would somewhat take away from the personal achievement of riding the length of Ireland! We are not providing you with a ‘tour’ we are providing you with support for your expedition! You will be provided with relevant information on a suggested route by way of maps and the group will have a GPS with the route planned into it.
